Jesus is on a pilgrimage toward Jerusalem through most of Luke’s Gospel. As he journeys, he eats with people: toll collectors, Pharisees, crowds of hungry followers. Each meal is a witness to the way God’s reign of shalom uses power in a radically different way than the institutional structures of the world. This book will explore the ten meal stories in Luke’s Gospel, how they speak to power and privilege, and what they mean for how to be a faithful pilgrim church in our post-Christian society.
